The mouth of the Bronx River is at the end of Hunts Point. The end of the Bronx; the most southern landmass of the only part of New York City on the continental United States. It empties out into an area where the Long Island Sound meets the East River known as Hellgate. At one time the only activity here was the Sanitation Dump where miles of garbage trucks lined up to load their haul onto barges that were dumped who knows where. It is now home to a floating prison which was supposed to be temporary but is starting to look as permanent as Rikers Island.
