Croton Dam

The Croton Dam holds back 30 Billion gallons of New York City water. Completed in 1906, its claim to fame is that it is the largest hewn stone structure in America, second in the world only to the Great Pyramid of Egypt. Located in Croton-on-Hudson on Route 129 off 9A it has picnic tables, hiking trails and a fountain.

wonderful! i grew up in westchester and never got a chance to take a look at the croton/croton-on-hudson area. i always knew of the kensico dam and have spent hours up there at night, but never this one. i think i like this one more. i wonder if there's anything like this in/around philly where i currently reside.
