My Beloved and I went to Fire Island, which is a 20 mile island off the south shore of Long Island, for a much needed vacation. It is an hour east of New York City but feels like its on the other side of the world. The isolation grows comfortably on your pysche the longer you are there. A short ferry ride and you are transported to sand dunes, boardwalks (no vehicles) and long and sparsely populated beaches. We stay at the Dune Point, which is more of a rustic do-it-yourself type of establishment, but makes it another of our favorite places to vacation and relax.
Ah, fire island.....thanks for the photos. I haven't had a chance to get out there this year!

Great pics of Fire Island. I grew up there and thought I recognized some of them. A few could be from the top of the walk in Lonelyville (where I grew up, say hi to my folks) others were of Brian (Beezy) Kerr's landscaping yard in Fair Harbour. Where did you stay? There's some cool panos of "the 'ville" and Fair Harbour at ALLDONE.com.
